10 Things You Didn't Know About Freeview: Part 2
Freeview LogoWhy can't 'they' get more bandwidth?

Bandwidth will increase for Freeview in 2012 when Great Britain switches to digital, in doing so all analogue channels, BBC 1 and 2, ITV 1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will "turn off" their traditional transmitters and everyone will receive television via Freeview or another digital service, such as the ones already mentioned in the article, this will free up much of the spectrum. However, Ofcom (Office of Communications) have not, and will not, announce what they will do with the spectrum after analogue television is shut down. Ofcom did say that there would be a yearlong review and they wouldn't rule out mobile phone operators, broadband providers and new local television channels.

The BBC's Research and Development Department have found a way to double the bandwidth Freeview currently has, unfortunately the newly discovered method requires new aerials and set-top boxes to bought to replace current Freeview reception equipment.
