Paypal Blocks Older Unsafe Browsers
Pay PalPaypal, the secure internet shopping website, it to block what it calls unsafe browsers, including Mac's Safari.

Paypal users who have their preferred browsers blocked will have to use alternatives, this will apply to all Mac users.

Macintosh computers come with Safari installed like on Windows, accept it can be uninstalled, unlike Internet Explorer on Windows.

Mac users will therefore have to download and install an alternative browser, such as Internet Explorer for Mac or Firefox.

Luckily for frequent online shoppers who use Windows, Internet Explorer has been outlined as safe. If Internet Explorer were decided to be un-safe, shoppers who insist on using PayPal would have a useless browser, as Internet Explorer is embedded in to the OS (Operating System) and can not be uninstalled from a Windows machine.

Paypal say that a browser that does not have a green address bar when a secure website is visited is unsafe, Safari does not do this, in this article's image you will notice the green side to the address bar in Firefox 3 Beta 5, meaning it is safe for the purposes of Paypal use.

The green address bar does not make the browser safe, it prevents users from accidentally typing Paypal's web address incorrectly, and accessing a cloned website which will not have a green address bar, as it will never be able to obtain an SSL certificate.

An SSL certificate can only be obtained if a website is "hacker-proof" and the real website, not a cloned website which would be noticed when the certificate is being purchased, the price of over £100 is also a deterrent, though sometimes users do not notice their typing error.

The latest version of Safari has been reviewed by e-Bay, owner of Paypal, and decided to be safe due to improvements into how easy it is to notice a fraudulent website, as well as notification from the browser.
