MPs are calling for a 999 text service, in order for the emergency services to be contacted, when the caller is unable to speak.Deaf and speech impaired people will find the new service very useful as it is currently very difficult for them to contact the emergency services.
Merseyside Emergency Services already offer a similar text service for when people contacting them can't speak.
All texts send to the number are handled by Merseyside Police's control room, who then contact other services as neccessary.
